    225 HO E-tech running @ 5300 rpms

Hello. I'm running a 200 pro xl with a 225 HO E-tech. The prop is a 28 raker which has great lift and runs about 76 gps fully load with two people, my concern is that it is turning 5300 rpms. The prop calculator indicates only 4% slip , is this possible? I have a 27 tempest B&B by Mark and it runs 76.5 gps at 5800 rpms this is reasonable, so I don't think my tach is wrong.

I know the E-tech run lean and hot so my concern is, when running the raker at 5300 rpms can I hurt the motor??? (Should I be running closer to 5800 rpms)

    Thanks Mark Cormier

I thought I read somewhere that the new raker's were more of a progressive pitch, so what they say they are isn't entirely the case. Yours could be more then 28 inches in pitch.

    Re: 225 HO E-tech running @ 5300 rpms (M_Cormier)

    Thanks for the replies.
I had my local prop doc check the pitch, two blades were out and it was out of balance too. He fixed it up and I run the prop this morning, everything is the same, speed 76 gps at 5300 rpms but it seems to accelerate with less vibration. I want to use this as a spare for my Tempest and run it in the spring/fall but I just don't know if I run it at 5300 rmps if it will overheat something and damages the mortor. I would like to be around 5600 - 5800 rpms. Any thoughts

    Thanks Mark Cormier

Agree, why run the Raker when the Tempest runs same speed and R's you want to turn,

    Re: 225 HO E-tech running @ 5300 rpms (Z21ROD)

Hi Rod and Kenneth, I like the Tempest a lot, and run it most of the time during the summer. The Tempest runs close to 6000 rpms in the cool months (spring/fall) so I need a prop for that time of year (the Raker), plus I would like to use the Ranker for a spare if something happened to the Tempest.

1NiceStratos made a good point, the operating WOT range is from 4500 - 5800 rpms, so BRP has essentially said its OK for the motor to be fully loaded as low as 4500 rpms, thinking of it that way I'm not that concerned now .

    Re: 225 HO E-tech running @ 5300 rpms (M_Cormier)

My dealer said to prop the ETEC's high since they made the most HP around 54-55 R's..........

I have ran a 26P Turbo TXP on my Z21 and it was the best lifting prop I have tried, same speed and R's though as the 27P Tempest.

    Good Luck

    Re: 225 HO E-tech running @ 5300 rpms (M_Cormier)

M Cormier, I seem to be having the same problem but with my , 150 E-tech HO . I am running a 24 Raker 2 , from the start WOT 5000 , 5200 and no more. I raised the jackplate 1 inch and no change in the RPM . Jumps on plane , good speed 59.5 gps and ran out of water ( small lakes here) and nothing but pad . From the get go the dealer said I should be around 5500 to 5700 now he said that 5200 was fine , But no deal, he said 5700 and that's what I want , So I am waiting for a Raker 22 , You said that by dropping down in pitch you got your numbers up , I hope this works for me . Should I be able to get some more speed with my rpms around 5700 ?

    Re: 225 HO E-tech running @ 5300 rpms (champion1955)

    Hi Champion1955,

Each inch of pitch will change about 200 rpms, going down will increase the rpms and going up will reduce the rpms. So if you get a 22" Raker II, theoretically you should get an increase of 400 rpms. BUT, it seems all prop's are not exactly the pitch that they are marked. For me my 28" Raker was way off on two of the three blades, hence it could be equivalent to a 29" or even a 30" prop. Plus when the blades are not the same it is not as efficient and speed and rpms will suffer. Where is the quality control for the big prop manufactures (Merc and Bomb) ???

I think what I will do for now on is either have my local shop lend me several props of the same type and pitch to try and pick the best one OR get the prop B&B by Mark.

I believe the E-tch's are OK to run in the lower 5000's rpms but it is "better" to run them just bellow 5800 rpms.
