After two years of frustration and gripes my extra cold natured Johnson 2003 90hp motor is fixed. This motor ran great but was much harder to keep running when cold than any Johnson I'd previously had and if you fished for more than and hour or so without moving you would have to pump the tank up again. After reading posts on this board about Javelin boats, etc. I figured my problem was a bad primer bulb but that wasn't true account replaced three times with factory bulb did not correct problem. Then I figured it was the check valve in the tank but I could not get the fitting out of the tank.
Lo and behold I was at the dealers the other and I saw a Bombardier part #173274 anti-syphon valve for $8.95 and it said for use on permanently installed fuel tanks. I asked the dealer about this and he said that I should have had one installed in my tank where the fuel line connects. I then told him I didn't think so, all I had was was a plain hose barb.
Well to end a long story I took the anti-syphon valve home and installed it in my fuel tank in place of the plain hose barb and after putting on the flush muffs and priming the bulb the motor fired and ran and never died and I went back several hours later and it again fired up without pumping the bulb.
Isn't it amazing how some really frustrating problems can have the simplist solutions sometimes.
