I have 99 225 3.l vmax. Is the operating range really only 5500 rpm? The too props I have run the motor around 6000+-. Motor runs great. One is 27t1 wich is very fast and very stable. Could the tach be off or the prop wrong? It is on 21' Skeeter.![]()

MATT HAMILTON 2018 FX21LE
should hit the rev limiter around 6200, most seem to like to run theirs between 5800 and 6100 rpm for best performance, and the tachs are very frustrating, I still haven't been able to get mine accurate![]()

i would prop it loaded for about 5750 so if your empty you still got a little room from the limiter
This has been an issue for many. They get the peak H.P. confused w/ the rev limiter. The motor makes its peak H.P. around 55-5600 rpms.
The rev limiter won't let the motor turn over 6150 rpms.
From my personal experience and I think that most of the other Yamaha guys out there will agree that they turn theirs around 58-6000 w/ no problem.
I heard it somewhere "you ain't burn'n it, if you ain't turn'n it."![]()
Good luck![]()

Your exactly right Lee, prop for around 6000 rpms, better to turn it up instead of lugging it down. Of course so far Im 6200 rpms and in the limiter everytime I hit it.
