At your age knee would have to be completely tore up to get replacement. They try to delay it as long as possible.
You need to get a Board job like old man Doug.

My dad had his replaced 5 years ago, he was 65 at the time and in good shape but his knees were so bad he couldn't hardly walk up a set of steps!! He has had no problems and can do most anything except kneel down on them.
My dad broke his femur and shattered his knee falling down ladder of a box stand. He had a bunch of metal and screws put in it and then arthritis set in. He could barely bend his knee and walked with a real bad limp. Doctor wouldn't do a knee replacement till a full year after the accident so the bones could heal (he's 62). Well last year he had a knee replacement done and he loves it. Therapy was rough but he said well worth it.
Jason my mom had it done about 15yrs ago, and so far it's still doing good.
Pijman on here had both his done this year, might wanna IM him.He gets around good, but they dont last forever, and you can only do it twice.
My wife was in a bad auto accident the week before Katrina, had to be cut out the mini-van....both legs & knees were badly damaged. She had several surgeries in order to walk, but needs both knees replaced. She has been holding out as long as she can, was only 49 when accident occurred. Her knees swell the size of soccer balls now, and never stops hurting. She has to get it done, so has it set up for Feb. Hope it goes well and she gets relief.
Seems to be tuff at first, but i remember they had my mom walking the next day and after about 3 weeks she was doing alot better.I bet they do a better job now then 15 yrs ago when mom had hers done, so i bet your wife will be just fine and hopefully not suffer any more once she gets her new knees.
My wife had no problem with the rehab, they said she was way ahead of schedule.
I lost my left leg in 1984 to a motorcycle accident. All the years took a toll on my right knee(not to mention a few stupid injuries that were my fault) Anyhew,
had my knee done a year ago November and it's friggin great! Follow the therapy and it will be fine-hurt's like biotch for a couple months but well worth it IMHO.![]()
Had fluid drawn from my knee Thursday. Hope it's not a sign of things to come. Damn needle looked like a nail.![]()
Jeff
You will hear alot of good and bad like back surgery's. The fact that it can go either way is why most tell you to wait until there is no other option. Just know it can go bad when considering and its up to you when its bad enough. And dont listen to the Dr. They are just a notch above car salesmen (sorry Troy). They dont get the big bucks without cutting. Thats my 2 cents. Hope it works out for the best.
Do Work !
I had partial replacements of both 1 year ago. And yes I walked the next day. A total of 15 feet with my pee bag. I had over 12 scopes over the last 20 years. The pain i went thru for the last 5 years before having it done was not worth it and now I look back at it as the best thing I ever did.![]()
Yep that's an LSU shirt and I will spare you the photo of the 100 staples.![]()
Rest in Peace Buddy Poche - Bayou Bullet.
I will miss you my dear friend.
My Pops had both knees done about 5 years ago. He gets a little stiff when the weather is cold, but overall he couldn't be happier. Just make sure you find a good doc!!
