My dad had it about 2 months ago (replacement). He was up walking the next day. Not walking much but he was standing on it. He is doing really well now. Walks with a cane but I think that it more because his other knee is shot. Keep it moving after surgery, they will jump straight into physical therapy. Ice will be your friend.
Backlash AR is going through it right now. My replacement is scheduled for 3/26 so I'm pretty interested in recovery time too.
exercise your legs a lot before the surgery, make sure you spend plenty of time stretchering your knee, quads, hamstring and calf's.
The better shape your muscles are in the faster you will heal, stretching is real important to help regain movement after surgery.
For a full replacement, they will have you up and walking before you are allowed to leave the hospital. Then the PT begins, expect several months of PT, you should plan to be off work for 6 weeks or so. . .
Good Luck

I should also add that my father is 76 and overweight. This may have slowed his recovery compaired to someone that is in better shape. He was in the hospital for a week.
My mol had a full replacement 1/10 pt 2x per week , last pt yesterday, still has home therapy to do on her own, She has done real well.![]()
6 weeks!! Had both of mine replaced! Good therapist and you will be good to go in 6 weeks if you do & listen to what they say and tell you to do!

Had knee surgery the end of June 2007, I was back a work Mid August, driving my standup forklift(Costco)...My ACL was torn and my miniscus was fold torn/ripped. Hurt like hell for one day and then I was up and moving pretty good. Follow the instructions of the physical TERRORIST(therapist) and you will be back in no time...
Your to young for knee replacement. I am 66 and had both of my knees replaced nine years ago and I am worst now than before. I would look at
alternatives measures, even pain managment, prior to knee replacement.
Jim I had mine on 1/25, this week pt only 3 times a week after 2 weeks solid everry day. PUSH PUSH PUSHiswhat every one told me. After pt leaves I pack with ice. Been walking with cane since wednesday, exactly 2 weeksafter surgery
I had one total replacement and will have the other done soon. Was on my feet the next day, walking with a cane for a couple weeks if I was going to go somewhere that would take a while. The knee heals quickly, the leg and scar will feel funky for a while. The longest part was building up the strength again since they have to detach and reattach the muscles. Work the leg out as much as you can ahead of time, and plan on working hard on rehab and physical activity to get the knee back to full strength. If you work at it, you can be back to "normal" activities within 8 weeks, but it will take a while to get full strength back. Best decision I ever made, very easy recovery, for what was done, and pain wasn't really an issue afterwards, except when you are pushing yourself in rehab and exercises.
