    High speed surging

Running back to the weigh in the other day my 2008 250 pro xs started to loose power. It would then catch and continue on normally and then loose power, back and forth. It did this for our return trip of approx. 50 miles. I took it back out on the water 3 days later to see how it was running and it would not get up on plane or gather up any power what so ever. It did start easy and idle ok. As soon as you gave it any throttle it would run rough and had no power, I could only idle around. If I reved it a little in neutral and it had a horn warning sound. Is this possibly the famous coil failure that I have been reading about in this forum? Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: High speed surging (fish recycler)

There are other possibilities (besides a failed coil).

A TPS or MAP issue would be near the top of the list of possibilities..... strongly recommend a Computer Diagnostic- have the "Freeze Frame (Fault) History" read and request a printout. If you'd like, I'd be glad to take a look at the report for you.

The engine is running so poorly that getting anywhere near 4000 rpm is unlikley. European Marine believes its in Guardian mode. Its off to the Merc mech. for a readout this morning if he can get to it.

    Re: High speed surging (skeeterme)

Well, the Merc mech says the readout says failed coil. Ill have the boat back in about 2 weeks thanks to the fact that all the coils are on backorder. Goodbye to the BFL finals (14th in the standings) and 2 other opens Im paid for. What a bunch of bull*&^#$ to have a company like Merc know they have an issue like this and just let it continue. Peed off in VT.

Don't have to wait that long for coils, my friend.

Might want to give us a call.
