2006 PRO XS. Solid beep on restart.

Seems to be same symptom as another post on here with same model year. I may be idling for a ways and shut the boat off. I have had this problem before. Once last year and again this week. I was idleing and saw a buddy across the cut. We met in the middle and shut the boats off. The boat was off for about 3 minutes. When I restarted the boat the over heat alarm went off. If you put it in gear then give it some gas it goes away. It always happens after a long idle run and a shut off then a restart within a couple of minutes. The problem is always the same. Last time it flagged the overheat in the computer as a port side head. I just thought it was a fluke that it happened. The water pump was replaced this year so I thought the problem was fixed. It only did it once in three days of fishing. I do not have smart craft. My water pressure is 25 pounds at WOT. It is about 2 to 4 while in gear and idling. I just think it to be odd that another post is identical to my and it is a 2006 model. Is the motor temp just going up while setting there? Sounds like the temp just spikes and when the water pump pumps water back up into the block it cools off. Do I have an issue?

    Thanks.

Intersting, I have experienced the same issue one time. It was after I had ran for about 2-3minutes at 10mph...(lake speed limit). A few minutes went by and when I fired it up, the alarm went off.... solid beep. I noticed the temp was high (not too sure 150+ or ? don't remember) very soon after the watetr started flowing, the temp dropped and the alarm went away. I do notice that the temp climbs after setting for just a few minutes. I perceived thais as normal due to no water circulating. This is even after letting the motor idle for 30 seconds to one minute after a run... still see the temp increase (145 or so) when starting up but no alarm.

I have a 2006 225 pro xs and mine does the same thing. Not sure why this happens. I did notice the pro xs lower unit has an exhaust port on the lower unit where my standard opti did not. Also the lower unit drain plug is behind the prop. Mine will overheat on key up if I idle 10 minutes or so.

Make sure that you've trimmed the engine down sufficiently BEFORE starting... and ensure that you start the engine within 2-3 seconds of turning the key on.

Occassionally, we see this occur where someone turns the key on, and waits 20-30 seconds before actually "cranking" the engine.

Had this happen to me the first month with my 250 ProXS a couple of years ago. Smart Craft stated over temp at start up after being shut off for just a few minutes after a long fast idle period. With the engine temp displayed I saw the temp drop right away as soon as I touched the throttle and alarm quit. What I believe is the cause of the alarm is that when you shut the engine down all the cooling water drains out of the power head and the power head temp continues to rise after shut down. This is pretty normal of most engines. When you restart before engine has cooled the over temp alarm goes off. Since all the water drain out of the power head at shut down it takes a few seconds for flush of fresh cool water to fill the power head water jackets. My temp at the restart was 180 degrees and once it dropped to 170 to 175 degrees the alarm shut off. The only time my engine did this it had about 8 hours on it. Have not had the alarm again. Keep in mind these new DFI engines are pretty hot running engines from what I am told but if you do not have a temp guage or Smart Craft and the proble persists it may need to be checked out to be on the safe side.
