    93 FastStrike Oil/Gas Drip

See the photos for the easiest way to describe what is going on, I have a drip of oil/gas going from the rear motor flush area. Not sure what it is. The motor was stored on the toter until it got cold, and was down for the winter. By the looks of things, my guess is a broke a seal of some variety.

    Johnson Fast Strike 150
    Serial #G03502332

Take a look at the photos and let me know what you think. Thanks, Mark

I would pull off the motor cover and belly pans and see what I could find for leaks.

After a further inspection, it appears as if it is gas coming from the carbs, and the interior of the motor near the carbs, has a film of gas covering much of the forward part of the motor.

I feel as though my issue is similar to the one in this thread. Any ideas besides on what exactly to buy. This is a new to me motor, and rather get it all done in one shot. Anything that might need replacing it is easier fixing it once and replacing all the stuff that goes bad on a 20 year old motor.

Take the air box off the carbs. Level the motor and squeeze the primer until the bulb is firm. Look for the leaks it will be pretty evident which is leaking. It could be something as simple as a stuck float bowl in one of the carbs. Take a picture of the leak if you can.

Took off the air box, much of the front area is gas film everywhere. In the air box, on all the fuel lines. Its a gassy mess. I may have over pumped the bulb one day at the end of last year. But this seems more than that.

Below is a picture of the carb bowl. Looks like a little gap, not sure if this is what you are talking about or not. Is this gap enough to cause trouble. Some of the others aren't quite this big

    This a a photo from the front;

This is down on the lower unit on the pivot where the motor turns. Looks to be a bunch of oil/grease seeping out. Any ideas on this?

Take some Purple Power and de-grease the belly pans and the midsection. Nothing worse than working on a greasy motor. Pump up the primer bulb and make sure it is firm. Hook up the muffs on the hose and start it up. Don't rev it up too much. Run it with the air box off and look for gas spitting back out of the carbs. The carb bowls have a bit of a lip on the center of them to help make a seal. I don't see any seepage so it looks OK. Please do us a favor when posting your pics. We're a bunch of old guys and the only time we like to turn our necks to look at a picture it is a Girl on the Snap-On calendar. If you can rotate them 90* prior to posting that would be great.

Thanks Fred, will get the pictures upright.

So I cleaned it up, hooked up the hose, and then it happened, small pin hole in my lower unit. It is real near the water intake. See the photo below. I notice when I turned the hose on, started the motor, and then the water started shooting out right next to the intake. tons of water was coming out the top as it should, and it didnt seem to affect anything, but I shut it down right away. The hole is about 1.5 inches from the intake.

How much trouble am I in?

Re: 93 FastStrike Oil/Gas Drip (fast fred)

Fred, I'm not sure which hole you saw. I'm not talking about the little hole in line with the 4 big holes, but the hole now in the red box. It wasn't leaking any gear oil, and I've never notice it before. I am hoping it is in the space that the water normally, like it is just a pocket that water is usually on both sides. Hoping Maybe some something I could just clean it up with something.

Yep water discarge from there is normal as Fast Fred said When LU fluid seeps out of there then that is not good.

Whewwww... I was sweating there for a minute. Thanks so much guys for the help.

I did run the motor for about 1 minute before I notice this unusual spray out the side on my LU.

Thanks again, and I'll keep you guys posted with my progress.
