Anyone ever fish this lake? I'll be up there fishing and camping in July. Is it just smallmouth or are there largemouth too?

99% smallmouth... late june should put you at a good time... topwaters in the AM and PM pot luck during the day... I was by the lake this weekend and it looked a bit low... you see a warning bouy, stay clear!
make sure you hit Sport island pub about 4 miles from the campsite for some of the best food in upstate ny... I used to work at that campsite... words to live by:
BRING THE BUGSPRAY!!!
Cheapest beer is at the RITE AID on your way through amsterdam after you get off the thruway... Any beer near the campsite is very pricey... Stock up! you'll also pass a price chopper and walmart so you can stock up on supplies... stuff around northampton is a long ride away...

Didn't the state record pike come out of there?
lake is pretty void of cover now, little bit of weeds sometimes but thats it... all big pike are caught now through the ice of fishing big live bait... lake is full of rock walls thats a good place to start... I'll think about you guys when I drive by on my way to champlain...
I grew up fishing the sacandaga... lived about 15 miles away...we used to ride bikes up there to fish from shore... then in high school, my father bought a bass boat and we were up there every weekend... thats where this crazy fishing deal started for me...
put them spawners back nice and easy this weekend!

Wacked em pretty good out around some of the islands that appear to be mostly underwater. Ended up chunking spinnerbaits around some of the submerged bushes and had one of the biggest pike ive seen follow it right to the boat but no takers. Ended up boating 6 decent smallies

What is the water level like right now? Water temp? did you see beds?
Well to be honest its only the second time ive been there. Was in the northville area and there were some islands that appeared to be partially underwater. Lake did not look low to me judging by the shorelines. Didnt see beds but the smallies I caught were all shallow around those islands

this week its been rainy so I'd say the lake filled some... been cool but the bass should be on the beds... bigger bedding fish are usually up the other end near the dam...
Well im off to the dead sea again this weekend, hoping to catch all 7 bass in the reservoir

I hear there are some nice walleye in the Mayfield area...
