you probably need to be using a weighted hook to keep from rolling!...

I been running back and forth to the pond all day trying to solve this same problem on the Berkely Powerbait. You have to have a weight on the hook to act as a keel but I don't think the hook they give you has enuff bite, having trouble with hooksets. They also have an exposed hook rig for open water with a bullet wt that goes partway into the belly and a treble rigged like a stinger hook. Still tuff to make them run straight but slower is better! Maybe clamp a split shot onto the hook for more keep? Think this bait needs at least a 7/0 or I need to be a lot smarter, think I'm gonna stay with the prerigged for a while but the Storms do not like heavy line!!! Maybe they would run better with a snap?? Oh yea, Tackle Warehouse has the Berkeley's with the stinger treble, maybe some of sponsors do also?

You said it Kevin, without any weight to act as a keel, they just roll over.

When setting the hook using a swimbait, be sure to wait until you feel the weight of the fish before setting the hook. too many times we set right when we feel the bite and pull the bait from the fish.

Try using Bakubaits wakemaker. It is engineered to be used without some fancy weighted hooks and will not roll when properly rigged. Don't get caught up in the hollow style swim-bait craze. The one I am recommending has been on the market for about 4 years now and works great with your existing terminal tackle.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I have been using their products for 6 years now and now just use their line of products exclusively. Saves a lot of time and effort trying to get ready for the tournament season. Plus they are a great value!

ive been using the Bass Magics with a Gammy MAG EWG hook and then buying some 1/8th pinch weights with the rubber insert and putting that on the bottom of the hook and the weight doesnt slide and you can position it to fall forward or horizontal. I dont like the hooks with the lead already on there since you cant really move it the way you want to fish it. That setup has been working great and weed free when throwing threw the thick stuff.
