    High voltage and no tach

    I have a 89' 150xp mdl e150stlcem srn# r 08206815. last time on the lake my volt meter went to 18 volts and the tach stoped working, how do I check the charging system ???

    I just had the problem of high votlage on a 92 3.0l. It wasn't running very good and was charging about 17.2 volts. I put a new rectifier regulator on it all problems went away.

    Put a multi meter on the battery leads start the motor on muffs. Check voltage over 14.8 VDC replace the regulator/rectifier. If you have wing nuts on the battery get rid of them and install Stainless steel hex nuts with lock washers or SS nylon insert nuts.

    I only have 12 volts at the battery terminals ( motor running) , also checked voltage at the 2 yellow wires from the regulator at the terminal block meter shows 0 volts. Looks like it is not charging now.???
