01 225 rude ram evinrude lower unit

going across the lake today and could hear a light ticking noise. sounded like motor knocking. killed it on the spot and checked all i know to check. cranked it back up and no noise.put it back in gear and headed back to ramp and it started getting louder. got almost back and someting gave then it wouldnt go. sounded real bad then. pulled oil plug out and oil had no water in it but smells burnt up and was black. chunks of metal on the mag also. can you fix this type of thing or just have to buy the whole lower unit.

As long as the case is good it can be repaired. Call this guy. Eddie Pope (AKA Gearcaseman) 423-336-5618.

Re: 01 225 rude ram evinrude lower unit (mbroussard)

I'm starting to move the new cases for some of the guys now, and so far, things are going very well. I still have some new OEM cases left at reasonable savings as well. These new aftermarket cases are really nice, considering the cost and warranty, I was impressed. Used housings are always a gamble, when you factor in the cost of a new gearset, lower shaft, bearings and seals, you're over the cost of one of these new one's.

I'm moving the new one's for 850.00 What I'm doing is removing the upper driveshaft, shift rod, and water pump and installing on the new gearcase. Shipping is the only additional cost to you.

Re: 01 225 rude ram evinrude lower unit (rude power)

Yes, this is complete, However, the upper driveshaft and shift rod are not with the case because normally you would just use your existing pieces with the new one. I do have these pieces if you wanted to go this route. I believe the shaft is @ 150 and the rod @ 30, these units come with a 3 year warranty, and so far, so good. E.P.

Re: 01 225 rude ram evinrude lower unit (rude power)

These are the standard cases only. No problem at all to install the upper shaft, it's getting it out that requires disassembly of the old case and depending on how bad things are inside, determines how much work is involved.

Re: 01 225 rude ram evinrude lower unit (gearcaseman)

Eddie Pope (AKA Gearcaseman) I have the same issue as above. Question what is the differance between the lightening gearcase and the units you are selling if any?

The lightning case is a high performance case the standard case is what comes on a stock John/Rude non HO.

The HO case is more aero dynamically designed, pointed bullet with smaller gears, the regular case is less aero but has bigger gears with the same ratio.
