    2004 BRP Johnson 150 HP

Is there anything I need to look for on a 2004 Johnson 150. I am looking at buying a BassCat Sabre rigged with the BRP Johnson.
I have already ran the Serial number and the motor didn’t have any warranty issues. I talked to the owner and he said he had to have the trim motor replaced and I may want to get a new primer bulb. The dealership is willing to do a compression test with me watching so that is really cool. I know 10% over all cylinders but what is the target PSI for the cylinders?
Is there anything else I need to look for? I also plan to drive the boat before dropping any cash…

    Thanks,

If the motor checks out JUMP on it if the price is to your likeing!! There is really no target for comp #'s as every gauge will read differently. I don't really know what a new engine would read, mabye one of the gurus will get this one.

Anything over 100 would be good. It is basically a FastStrike/Intruder the last of the carbed engines for BRP. It will serve you well.

Maddoxbay - I have one I bought new in '05 as an inventory hold over. I run XD-50 in mine, change plugs and gearcase oil once per year, run Seafoam and Stabil in the tank, and run the holy living crap out of it at wide open throttle all the time. I believe it is bullet proof. I do know however that it drinks gas like a sailor on leave drinks beer but when I turn the key it starts and when I stomp the hot foot she goes. Thank God gas prices have come down from last summer.

THey are great motors had the same year same motor. No problems whatsoever, as said they love gas and oil if you push them to the limit.

Mine's a 2004 150 and I haven't had a single issue with it. I was running xd-30 and decarbed every year. I switched to xd-100 last year. I change plugs and lower unit oil every year and put stabil in the gas in the off season. I couldn't be happier with mine.
