    Question on using culling tags.

Just wondering how most hook up their tags to the fish to get the best hold and do the least amount of damage? Lower jaw, upper jaw or side of mouth? I do the lower jaw, seems best to me. I use the snap type holders and not the clip on type. I also sharpen the ends to a fine point to make inserting the clips easier.

I use a metal clip type. put it around the outside gill plate. I do not put more holes in the fishes mouth. If the fish is over 5lbs no cull tag.

i use a plastic clip on the lower jaw. It doesnt put a hole in the mouth but you can't lift the fish with it. It does help getting your fish out of the livewell though. Ive seen too many big rips in fishes mouths from guys jerking and lifting fish by the cull tags.

Speaking of the holes, do they ever heal back, if so how long does it take?

Not sure on how long it takes, but I caught a 4 lber yesterday that had been on a cull tag previously. You could tell where she had been on a tag because she had a spot where it was healing up.

I usually try to stick it in the hook hole, not make a new hole
