Friend of mine has a tandem axle trailer. I also have one. I never tagged my trailer in Kansas. My boat came with an option for a tandem and I did so because the ease of trailering. He was stopped by a Kansas Highway patrolmen on his way back from Cabela's. (Blew up his 225 EFI same day) He was not speeding and was pulled over because the officer said he was over the weight limit. A scale was never used. He was given a ticket and told he had to get a tag. What is the law? He told my friend he was trying to get out of paying propery tax on his boat. Was the officer just being a hard ass, or if you are tandem does that mean you need a tag. If so, I would assume you would have to pay property tax on trailer or sales tax if you bought from a dealer in order to get it tagged. Dont mind doing that if necessary but they gouge us enough already on everything as it is.
