    1982 ProCraft Project 1st timer

Ok, its been heck getting this boat, but I finally got it..... Have some questions at the end of the pic's....

Got a hot foot and steering with it... does anyone know or can tell by the picture what this kind of steering is?

whoever had this before fiberglassed the transom like crazy...

came with a 2 piece jack plate....

Gonna pull the gas tank out and see how bad everything is.... my question is how much resin will I need for just a transom repair??? Have more pics later...

Well I think you've got a big job right there....it looks like a money pit but if you can do the work, go for it......not sure on the steering - looks mechanical push/pull with the 2 cables. Pop the wheel and pull the assembly out. The wiring is a rat's nest. Make sure to photo/list/ label/diagram as you go - that includes things like hinges on lockers / gauges etc. Looks like the trailer needs help as well. Good luck! Keep pics coming......

Re: 1982 ProCraft Project 1st timer (catfishkid)

here's some more pics of what i did today after work.... they have fiberglassed the crap out of the transom trying to strengthen it, but its wet on the inside... needless to say I am having a really hard time trying to get the top cap off... UUGGGGHHHHH any suggestions???? also when i pulled the carpet i found a fiberglassed piece of plywood, when i pulled it i found whats in the first couple of pictures....

    the bottom looks ok...

    they fiberglassed everything....

    and the transom.....

this is underneath the splashwell where they fiberglassed the heck out of it.... really cant get to it with anything to cut it... any suggestions?????

Your foam is probably shot. It's not hare to get out, just a PITA. Get a wire wheel for your grinder. I used 15 gallons on my transom, stringers and deck. I lost some resin in the learning process. I used poly. much cheaper, and it is what the boat is made out of. Your splashwell is probably glued to your transom. Mine was. I had to get a chisel and break it loose.

    Re: 1982 ProCraft Project 1st timer (Baxter1982)

I got it at Composites One, good people, but I had to set up an account and the minimum order is kind of large. Not hard to do on a first order, but if you ever have to order more, it gets kinda spendy. I've never used US Composites, but I read a lot of good comments about them. I have a build thread on here, 1986 Skeeter Starefire. I didn't do much over the winter, but am getting ready to re-cap her soon.

    Chris
try to save the foam costly to replace, pull it out and let it dry That cap is attached under the seats in the rod locker under the two front storage compartments in the slpash well up underneath and I had to cut the top of the splash well to get the back of the cap . They put a heavy amount of resin in there.I had some pics up on the site but when we swap over boards they got lost If you need some I can try to fing them at home and e mail them to you. Ifound that I had to replace all the wood in my boat. Good luck let me know if I can help.

    Re: 1982 ProCraft Project 1st timer (Baxter1982)

well we got the top cap almost broke free..... the only thing holding it down is the rodbox floor.... I forgot the camera but I ended up cutting the top of the transom off to get it freed from the splash well, there were gobs of resin holding the cap on behind the transom on the pontoon looking things.... well maybe i'll get a chance tomorrow to finish cutting the resin thats holding the cap on and won't forget the camera.... still looking for the best and cheapest place to get large quantities of resin and hardener..... thanks everyone...

    Re: 1982 ProCraft Project 1st timer (Baxter1982)

Well I should have the top cap off as soon as I get enough people to help set it off and get a dry day to do it..... As soon as I do I will post more pictures, I do have a few questions, what would be the best way to remove the old wood from the transom and is the foam suppose to be in the middle of the boat like in the pictures above, or would it be ok just to leave that out.... I don't think that it was made that way from the get go.... Thanks everybody...

Oh yeah!!!! a lot of work... still needing to know if there is suppose to be foam in the middle of the boat and if so what purpose does it serve??? and the boxes in the back seem to be filled with spray foam (great stuff is the common name), is this ok to put back? I'm gonna be taking the foam and other crap out today and I wont trash it until Monday so hopefully someone will let me know if I need to put what I can back or just trash it....oh well heres to a heck of a first project.....

Im pretty sure all that foam that was under the floor should not have been there, since it is foam blocks for doing flowers/crafts. others can chime in for sure tho.

    Re: 1982 ProCraft Project 1st timer (Baxter1982)

well yesterday we took the foam out of the bottom and just as i thought it was soaked... but i forgot the camera... but here is a pic of after i took the foam out...

so today i worked about 4 hours on getting the transom loose and out and finally got it... i really can't believe how quick this is going... but i did find out why you don't use pressure treated wood with the resin... here is the pics...

and here is the pictures of the transom after i got the wood out... i will try to remember to get a picture of whats left of the transom (a wet pile of mulch)lol.... but here are the pics...

and a pic of what was inside the boxes on the back....

thanks again for all the info and if you all have anymore info please let me know... oh and one question.. there was foam behind the transom on the sides where the back of the boat goes out farther than the transom should that be there or should i replace it with wood???? thanks everybody..
