I am having lower unit trouble again. My question now is do I buy a new lower unit or have mine rebuilt? Just wondering what the price difference will be? I know I will get more warranty on a new or refurbed LU. Any input is appreciated![]()

That depends on what kind of trouble you're having. You could get an estimate on rebuilding yours, then weigh that against the fact that you could buy a new one for @ 850.00 with a 3 year warranty, and then make your decision.
Thanks, where can I get the LU with the 3 year warranty? and my motor is jumping in and out of gear is the trouble I am having

Stern Drive Engineering, SEI has them for that price. You will need to move your drive shaft, shift rod and water pump to the new case.
The jumping out of gear is really not that bad to deal with. A simple cable adjustment could be all you need if you're lucky, but if you're like me, it's probably the gear and clutch dog that have rounded off creating this slippage. Two things can be done, you can replace the forward and pinion gearset (if it's forward gear that's slipping) or have your present gear and clutch dog re-machined at a machine shop, if the teeth are still in good shape. This will be far cheaper than a new case.![]()
Thanks for all of the info guys. I am taking my boat to the shop thursday to let them check out what is going on and then I guess we'll go from there! Thanks again guys!![]()

Well after taking it to the shop and having the mechanics look at it, they don't think that its a LU issue. They're afraid it might be a coil problem. anyone ever hear of this? and anyone have a roundabout of what fixing a coil problem might cost me? I'm taking it back Monday so they can go more in depth on it.

This won't have anything to do with it jumping out of gear.
