Hi - I can run for up to 1/2 hour and then one or 2 cylinders cut out and I can barely make 4500 rpms - would this be the power pack? Coil? Thanks

1996 - J200STLEDM Thanks I tried new plugs put QL78s in her![]()
I should of said - new plugs did not help :![]()
Coils are the cheapest, are they on the same bank? If so may be a stator going bad.
Don't know what you mean by same bank? A coil beside each plug. I suppose I could run here til she does this and then take a plug wire off at a time and see if i can find the bad one? Is this the way to do it?
By bank I mean is it the port side of the motor or starboard side or can't tell? All one side I'd say PP a timing light should help you identify which coil is breaking down.
Thanks for your help!!!!! I can't tell what side or coil it is. I'm kind of dumb on this stuff - how do i hook up a timing light to test the coils? When she started breaking down i was just going to start taking plug wires off and on to see which one had no fire?
That would work too. If you move the timing light to each plug wire when it is breaking down you will see the one with no spark. Just make sure you isolate your self when you pull the wire or you may get a big surprise.![]()
You mean - wear rubber boots? Anyway = hook one wire of the timing lite to plug and other to plug wire?
If you are going to go with the pull plug wire method yep, If you are going to use the timing lite no need. You only hook up to the battery to supply voltage to the light and then slip the plug pickup over the wire. You may have to flip the plug wire pick up to get a signal. Just shoot it on the block or flywheel once connected to the plug wire.![]()
