Transom help in a alum Tracker boat. Need to replace the wood.

Have a 1992 Tracker deep V 17. The transom board is getting weak and needs replaced. Has anyone ever done a job like this and can it be done at home. Looks to me like you remove the top cap and the rear screws and it would come out with some work.aAny info would be appreciated.

Again YES...this can be done at home. It turns into a lot of work but it can be done.
Take off motor. Carefully remove the top cap over the transom so it can be reinstalled
later. Dig all the old water logged, crappy wood out of the transom. ( This will be a nasty, stinking mess.) Then build and install your new transom plywood insert into the
transom "pocket". Then reattatch your top cap. Put the motor back on and go fish!!

i used the shop vac and a long chisel to get all the loose stuff out.used a buch of fiber glass resin also , just pourd it into the transom after the fully wrapped green treated wood was also wrap in fiberglass webbing with resin on that also put cap back on with a solid aluminum stiffner i had made from a local welder on the outside of the transom.worked great. good luck and have a big sawhourse ready for your motor.
