2 questions on an 06' 225 Sport XS

    1. Would a bad coil make it hard to get on plane, it runs fine with the exception of getting on plane? Actually whn in gear idling it seems to sputter everyonce in a while. not consistantly, but about every 10-20 sec

    2. I was going to top off the fluid in my trim pump since it has a small leak before my tournament, but when I trimmed it all the way up and loosened the cap to the fluid it started coming out. How do you top off the trim fluid?

1: Although a bad coil might make "planing" difficult, you would almost certainly see "other" performance issues (such as a loss of top end performance). When were your spark plugs last replaced????

    2. Engine must be trimmed "all the way up" so that the manual safety device can be flipped into the "locked" position. Boat should be sitting "level". Carefully remove the fill cap plug (it may be under pressure). Fluid level should be full only to the "bottom of the threads" (not pouring out of the opening).

His plugs were last changed about 3 months ago, right before he bought it from me.

I think his getting on plane problem might be related directly to his boat driver.

Just pickin at ya Daddychat. That engine never had a great holeshot on my boat, but I was also running 4 batteries. Do ya have a lot of gear stored in the back storage boxes, if so, you may try to get the weight forward a little bit. Even with the 250 on mine now I don't keep much in the back storage because of the 4 batteries and the hydraulic pumps for my j/p and my powerpole.

Not alot, I did pull the plugs and they look old, I am not sure what these should look like after a few months but i'll try to get some pics. Im gonna change them out this week and see what happens. I did run the boat loaded with me & jesse and all our gear to 82last week with that Hydro, but I could not get on plane when we met up with Trashy.

Did you raise your j/p up to see if it helped. That was one thing that I almost always had to do with that 225. I would raise the plate until it started to cavitate then drop the plate to get her to bite.

IF you're running an appropriate dosage of Quickleen in each and every tank, and not running excessive "low or idle RPM runtime", your plugs should be SOME shade of tan/brown, with a relatively "uniform" color. Watch carefully for any lines that even REMOTELY appear to run "lengthwise" in the porcelain (if you see such a line, assume the plug to be cracked.... trust me, it probably is).
