    Gear oil dripping off skeg

I posted this in general forum, but was directed here.
I noticed gear oil dripping off the skeg of my 95 225 Evinrude and saw it's coming from the front of the prop (not the end where the exhaust comes out)
How hard is this to fix myself? I hate to keep bringing my boat in to the shop for things I could do myself.
I have mechanical skills, just not with outboards (yet).
The service manual states I will need a special OMC tool to pull the bushing?
Thanks for any help or advise.
    David

Re: Gear oil dripping off skeg (bananaman)

You could use a Harmonic balancer puller if you have one, along with some 5/16" all thread rod to pull the rear bearing carrier. A long sturdy screwdriver will work for prying out the seals. When you install the new ones, make sure you wipe some sealant in the bore before you tap them in.
