08 HPDI 250 Dripping oil or gear oil??? Is this normal??

I am ignorant when it comes to this and will admit it but the last week or so I have noticed a small puddle of oil on the concrete right up under the lower unit out of the 2 screen like things (maybe the water intake screens)??....it appears to be the yamalube but I am not sure. It does get HOT in my shop and I am thinking it is just access oil that dripped out from the exhaust or something. Does anyone else ever see this??

The puddle isnt big....maybe like a half dollar size. Thanks in advance for any ideas or tips!

I would have your LU checked for a bad prop shaft seal or loose vent or fill screws and seals.

I refilled my L/U in October when it was much cooler. Last week it has been around 100-102 degrees here and I noticed a tiny drip on the bottom of my skeg (hadn't even dropped on the ground). I thought maybe a little pressure built up in the excess heat and wasn't worried about it.

Use a 6mm hex driver to remove screens and tighten the oil drain plug. While you at it tighten the plug on top of gear case also.

I had this happen once on my 150 VMAX. Some how the drain plug screw had become a tad loose.

Yeah I took some advice and just tightened everything up which was a little loose and havent seen another drop. I am going to watch it carefully but heck at least its under warranty. I called Yamaha today to purchase the extended warranty for my boat and they said I already had it so I am good until 2014!!
