    2003 evinrude 225ho

looking at a boat with this on the back. dealer told me that it has 250 hours with 57% being at idle. is t hat alot of hours for this year of a motor?
and i hear that that much ideling is bad for a bigger motor, fowls plugs and stuff. this is the only info i have on the motor. just wondering whats typical for this year of a motor. thanks

I don't think that 250 hours is high for an 03. 57% at idle is a lot but not a problem with proper maintenance. If you run XD100 oil it would be no problem whatsoever. Great engine!

If that motor checks out, computer printout, compression, and leakdown if ya can get it. Throw the xd-100 to her and run tha hound outta it @ 5800 rpms!!!

It's a test where ya put air into a cylinder and see how much pressure it's holding or leaking down.

Mine has a high % of idle time also, over 50%, and I'm not fouling plugs. For lack of a beter way to explain it, the idle time is interspersed into the over all rpm spectrum. I always try to make a strong run back to the ramp also to help keep the plugs clean. I even fish some idle only lakes around here, and as long as I idle, and don't try to run @ 1500 rpms + and cause it to oil more no problems. I seem to have less plug problems since I started running the xd-100 oil also.

You may need to see someone else for your engine troubles, I've had my glitches and had a reputable tech deal with it and no more problems!!!
I'm having a hard time with the 87mph, is that gps??
Has your dealer bothered to do a compression check? I'm sure the REAL gurus here can think of a TON of things for your dealer to check. These motors do require the grounds to be good for good electronics which the emm requires, and a good tech will know this. They require the emm remains cool in a relative term, it requires that it gets oil, and fuel in the right ratio. The good thing my tech points out is the diagnostic with someone that knows how to read it and has an open mind can and will figure out most problems. JMHO All I can say , I love my 03 DI!!!
