    Filling up with Gas!!!

I filled my 2001 javelin 19 renegade up for the first time today since I got it.. And you had the pump the gas really really slow or it would come back out the hole.. Is this normal.. It took me 15 min or so to fill my tank up.. Not to mention 75.00 but that is another topic..
    Thanks
    Scott

Turn the handle upside down 1/2 to 3/4 on the handle and you will be good

I put the nozzle on an angle, at the 9 o'clock position and letter rip.

Remember if you fuel up while on the water, if you stand on that side of the boat it will fill slowly also because the boat leans to that side. When I fill on the water I have to stand on the opposite side of the boat while someone else fills. lol

I have a 2001 Javelin R19. I have always had to fill up really slow. I have tried turning the nozzle every different way. The only way I can fill up just a little quicker is if the boat is angled uphill just a little.

I can fill mine WFO without issue, but if you overfill it, you better get ready for a gas bath, cause it will spew out that vent like a son of a gun.

Its pretty common. My Stratos 18XL would do it, had to hold the nozzle just right.

It's typical in boats. Most boats do this. Im able to fill at about 1/2-3/4. I also dont push the nozzle all the way in the fill hole.

My last boat was like that, and I hated putting gas in it....I could only put it at about 1/4 throttle. But on my new boat I can let her rip wide open, and its awesome! Other than the cost to fill it up :(

Same deal here, very frustrating. Gas spews out onto the boat and my stainless fenders. I actually came here to ask the same question, you beat me to it. I love this boat and can say that this is about the only wierd thing about it.
I'll try the upside down thing.

I found out that you only do that once. Did it my first time filling the boat. I actually just take my time when filling it up. I also list out for the gurgling sound out the vent so I can slow down the gas before I get a bunch out the vent.

Re: Filling up with Gas!!! (mike long)

Used to have the same problem with my 279. Heres the trick that worked on mine. The vent beside the fuel cap, take something and completly place it over the top of it and blow into it as hard as you can. Don't breathe in unless you want a buzz, but blow in it and blow the gas in the vent line back down into the tank. Then she will fill at full speed. I had a water bottle cut in half with a bunch of silicon around the edge that would seal pretty good forever but when I lost that, I would just take a roll of TP and it would fit over the vent just right. Would take a few times but finally got it down pat.

my 89 strat is the same way. gotta barely squeese it depending on the tank. the vent hoses dip boing to the vents and they can catch fuel causing them not to vent. blowing them out will help as it did with mine, but dont overfill or you will have to blow out again. on my boat, the port side is much worse than the starboard.

    Re: (pickupman66)

some stations pumps will surge especially if other rigs are fueling so this old gas jockey showed me a trick if you hold a little kink in the hose (like you were chocken off a garden hose) it allows the fuel to flow at a even rate. I tried it and didn't have any problems with pump kicken off or gas burpen out vent or filler neck
