I am noticing that shifting my engine from forward to reverse is getting a bit harder. I have a 2004 Stratos 201 Pro with a Evinrude 225 HO DI. Is this something as easy as lubrication of the linkage etc? If it is where would I lube it and what type of grease etc should I use. Thanks.
The shift linkage coming from the lever to the motor might need to be replaced. Only way of getting oil in it is to remove it, hang it, and spray WD-40 or some other lube. Not really sure as it hasn't happened to me.

My 2003 was doing this 2 weeks ago, getting a little harder each time going into gear and really hard to get out of reverse and back to neutral. I started having to go into forward to get it to go to neutral from reverse. Got back to the truck one evening there and it wouldn't go into reverse at all. I run it up to the shop real quick and come to find out the bolts that hold the cables on the side of the block had been loosening up and had finaly fell out. Luckily they were laying right there in the bottom cowl and hadn't fallen down in there and it was a quick 5 minute fix by just bolting the cables back solid so only the inside of the cable would move and not the whole cable. So you might check that and just take a look at the rest of your linkage while someone works it and see if you see anything in a bind or loose.
It's probably going to be a shifter cable.
