    Shift Assist problems?

    I have a 150 Ficht manufacture date 6/2002.
    model# E150FPXSTD
    serial # 05003082
I recently had the cover off and noticed the shift assist switch was partially dislodged from the bracket. After putting it back into place I noticed that it was not engaging the switch when I shifted into either forward or reverse. When I pushed the switch down to force the switch to make, the engine did cut out for a brief moment each time it was made.
I don't see any adjustments and am not certain what is supposed to cause this switch to make. Can anyone shed some light on this, I am confused?

It will only engauge the switch if there is a tight shift. This happens after a long high speed run where the clutch is mashed into the foward gear. Or if you have a tight shift rod. Tight shift rods will throw the check engine light as the emm knows the switch should not stay on for more then 5 seconds under normall operation.

Thanks for your response johnrude. That makes more sense to me now. I was under the impression that it would need to make every time I shifted into gear.
