    livewell pump-out?

i was wanting to add a pump-out to my 05 285 pro xl. my question is: on other new stratos boats with pump-out, is the pump mounted in the bottom of the boat with a hose feeding it from the livewell or is the pump mounted through the bottom of livewell? both would work but just wanted to know how the factory put the pumps.

One way to go is upgrade yours to the Flow-Rite system. Top notch stuff. I know in my buddies new stratos his may be a Flow Rite system, not for sure but just like it. Call them, there customer service is very good.

Yep the flow-rite system is what I used. It installed easily and works great.

i looked on the website at the flowrite. can you explain better how this works. does it have a valve at the aerator head to turn it off to pump out. what do you turn on to pump out, the aerator switch(manual) or do you have to add another switch?

bass and walleye magazine had a article on this a year or so ago. i forget most of the details, but they had to buy an extra peice of plastic fitting and two kits for two livewells and some where around $140.00.

With the kit I purchased you get an aerator head and the fitting that goes through your boat hull. You simply replace one of your aerator heads with the new one. It has two two hose connectors on it. One hose connector is for the aerator line the other hose connector is where you hook up your drain line. You will cut a hole in you hull and put in the drain fitting and run a hose from the new aerator to the drain fitting and that will complete the install. When you want to use it you simply put your livewell in the recirculate position and then reach into your livewell and pull the head of the new aerator. When you pull it the head will pull out to a new position (like a valve) causing the aerator head to close so when water is pumped out of the livewell by the pump and sent back into the aerator for recirculation it is pumped out instead. When your done push the head back in and the aerator goes back to normal.

It is very simple to install and works great. The hardest part for me was getting my hand into the place where I put the pump out hull fitting and holding it so I could tighten the retaining nut.

Is there any way to do this type of pump out, where you don't have to put your hand into the livewell. I have several freinds that have a pump out on their boats, and I don't recall seeing them put their hands into the livewells.

What the heck...they don't do the cable valve on the new stratos anymore. Heck I just replaced all my livewell pumps and valves and the pump out is just a cable valve that opens up and drains via gravity. I suppose you would need a pump out if your boat stayed in the water all the time...then a pump would make sense.

Mine has the cable valve also, was just wondering if a pump out could be installed so I would not have to duck down behind and under the rear of the boat to fill a weigh in bag. I have a friend that has a Javelin, and his has a pump out. It pump out high on the deck, like the bildge pump.

Come to think of it when I bought my replacement cable valves online they had a three way cable valve that looked identical to the one we are familiar with .....You could rig up one of the legs off that valve to the pump and pump out the livewell when you want to use the pump or set the valve to empty via gravity. If you can find a one way (won't allow backflow) valve like they use in houses you could put that inline with the bilge pump and pump it out the side of the boat...Now that's a thought. If that sounds like a plan I can find the link to the place I got my replacement valves from and you could just use it to replce the two way.

Where did you drill the hole for your thru-hull fitting? I would like to put mine right next to the bilge fitting but I would not be able to get my hand in there to tighten the nt or attach the hose.
I was thinking about putting it on the other side in the same place. What are your thoughts on the best place to put it?

$21.95 So why invent the wheel you gotta put your hands in the livewell anyways!

I did not drill my hull and put in the extra pump out fitting. I got a 3/4 inch "y" fitting and tapped into the bilge hose. When the nozzle is pulled it pumps out the bilge fitting. Only draw back is you can't use both at the same time.(never needed to run bilge pump and pump out at the same time anyway) Be sure you install the pump out valve to recirc pump and not the fresh pump. This may save someone from drilling a hole in their boat.
