    2009 20I/w 250 HPDI Series 2

Hello, I believe i'm going to be purchasing a 2009/20I/250 HPDI Series 2 right after the first of the year. The boat and engine are new. Without trying to reinvent the wheel myself can someone give me some idea what height the motor should run at and with what prop the 20I likes for best all around setup tourney loaded, two guys. Also, what does the Series 2 mean on the Yamaha. Familiar with the HPDI series but what are differences on the HPDI Series 2 over the original?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Kind Regards,
    Kendall Scheel

The series 2 is basically the same as the HPDI with a few tweaks to the oil system.

    Re: 2009 20I/w 250 HPDI Series 2 (Neilslure)

I have the exact same boat I got as a left over in August this year. I have heard that the factory 25-t prop is the way to go. I was also told to have the jackplate set with 7 dots showing. The best i got with that setup was 76 once on gps but would run a constant 75 with 2 people (girlfriend and I) and only my fishing crap in the boat with empty livewells. (Toward the end of the break in and just after in upstate NY.) I moved the jackplate up one dot so 8 dots were showing and got 72-73 with full liveswells and 74 with empty live wells with 2 people however my partner had as much fishing stuff with him as I had stored in the boat. (lake Anna the weekend before thanksgiving.) She chined walked a good bit with the orginal setup but once I raised that jackplate it was barely noticable but then again I had a lot more weight in the boat) I may try to raise it up a little more in the spring to see what happens.

Thanks to both of you for replying quickly. Interesting on the HPDI. The series 2 is to fix some oil issues from the original then (i guess).

Jdweber have you tried a 26 pitch? I'm just curious if it would work a bit better at WOT but not sure how much it would hurt the hole shot. Just trying to hone in on prop. I do know that a 25-t sits on it right now. I'm sure the dealer will let me try a couple out but would like to narrow it down if possible. Also, is there such a prop as a 25-M? And if so what are the differences between the T and the M? Sorry to ask so many questions but coming from a Mercury/Triton combo and not used to the Yamaha terminology.

    Thanks Again,
    Kendall

The series II also has forged pistons.
The 25M is a good prop but for lighter hulls. I went that rout for too long on ZX225 which is about 200lbs lighter then 20I and have a nice collection of busted up 25 and 27M. The latest victim was a 25TXP which I thought would never crack but it did. Whatever prop you end up with set it up so it doesn’t ventilate. You may sacrifice a mile or two but it will last much longer.

I have not had a chance to try any other props. My hole shot is great and it jumps right up on plane. I think the 25-m is for smaller horse power motors. I think the T is built stronger and the Ms have been known to throw blades. (at least thats what I read on here.) I'm no expert yet on skeeter yamaha either since i came from a 18 ft 1985 stratos with a yamaha 150. MY experience has come from the 25 hrs I put on it since August. I'm sure some people that have had this setup will chime in the next few days.
