    2008 ZX225 Pros/Cons

Guys I'm not trolling. I've got the chance to pick up ZX225 with a 225hp Series 2 for a good price. I've been reading every post in the Skeeter/Ranger/Triton section of this forum. My first question - Are Skeeter boats known for not chiming? Seems Triton do. Any other comments or things to add or look for on the boat before I that delivery would be extremely helpful.

Is transom chipping at the jackplate a problem on 2008 ZX's or did they correct that problem?

ZX225 has been one of Skeeter's flagship models the past decade...Only thing I don't like about the 2008 model is the console electronics location...I have a ZX225 and don't have the transom chipping issues some others have posted about..but I also check all my bolts during the off-season...Go with Skeeter, you'll never look back (Well maybe you will at the other brands you pass on the water)

Go for it, you won't be disappointed. I have had 3 of them as demo's and love them. It has been the flagship for a while and there is reason for it. I haven't had anyone get one and wish they had done something different.

i had a 04 225, cant really say i ever expericened any chine walking, or at least it wasnt enough to get my attention. I think you will be very pleased with the overall performance and fishability of the 225. i really didnt like the consoles either. i went with an i class last year, and it is a little heavier than the 225, seems to handle ruff water better, but speed wise and gas wize the 225/225 is better, just my opinon, you wont go wrong with the 225.

    Re: 2008 ZX225 Pros/Cons (MuskieOn)

I have an 05 225/Yamaha 225 HPDI. I have not experienced Chine walking. My prop is a 25Ti and top speed with tourney load is about 69 mph. Maybe faster on a cool/no wind morning, but I think that's a pretty realistic expectation. As for as the ZX225 itself, I'd say it's a great layout, fishing deck is very stable, plenty of room both on top and storage. The only small problem I've had is the touch panel issue, which is a known problem on the 2004/2005 models where it locks up. The fix for me was to reset the circuit breaker. I've not experienced any gel cracks or finish problems that others have complained about. I don't fish in 25mph wind, so maybe that might have something to do with stress cracks. My seats are still in the same shape they were when I drove it off the dealer's lot.

As for things I added: Hamby's, Electronics ( I'd put on 2 Hummingbird SI units and link trolling motor and console with Navionics maps. ). I currently have Lowrance X25 and 135. I'd also added a recessed foot tray for the TM. I think this really helps your back on long days of fishing. Also, I'd suggest a 50" TM shaft. Mine is 42" and it's too short when fishing deep points in 15mph wind as it comes out of the water. The rest is buying good fishing equipment: Rods/Reels, etc...

jfdawson, I think there is some room for improvement on your top speed. On a hot day with a full tourney load and two people I can do 73mph. With just me, with full equipment I've hit 75 a few times. I start to chine a bit at 71mph.

dawson and everyone - Thanks for the replies. I'm now dealing on adding power pole. I'll keep you guys posted.

The dealer I'm working with said somethin the other day. He said effective this week prices are going up 10%. Yes 10% I find that hard to believe. I was also looking at a Ranger boat. The Ranger dealer said prices are going up 3%. I don't know which one to trust. Both dealers have plenty of 08's in stock and are willing to deal. Decisions Decisions

I don't know about the series 2 motors, I have a series one. On the Ranger issue. I haven't seen one with a 225 motor that can outrun the ZX225 when set up right. I've outrun some 250's.

Model year change is coming, prices ARE going up. Any left over 08's should be workable. Extra warranty and rebates still apply through the BASS Federation program.

Let them keep raising the prices, and they are going to be in the same boat as the American car manufactuers. When It cost almost $400 to fill up the boat, people are going to stop buying.
