Hi everyone,
I am currently looking at a 2000 sx17. Is this an aluminum boat? It only has a 40 yamaha on it. The ad does not say it's aluminum, but I am curious. Guy wants 4k for it. Thanks for the help.![]()

I've never actually seen a Skeeter Aluminum boat, though they were built for a few years. It's the same as a G3 with Skeeter's name. If you can get a 17 ft aluminum bass boat with a 40 hp for under $5,000 and it's in good shape, that's a good deal.
That boat new now is about $13,000

This is an aluminum boat. 17' long with a 6' beam. It is rated for up to 75 hp. NADA has low retail value at $6100 with the 75hp on it. Check it out and drive it. Sounds like a pretty good deal.
Ive only seen one aluminum boat with skeeter logo on it , dont know what yr model it was, always do a compression check on used motors and take to water before buying, dont trust runnin it on ear muffs with garden hose, just givin ya heads up on previous experince on used boats, compression check only will take 20min or so and you can buy that tool at any car parts place, and there not expensive, make sure every cylinder is WITHIN 10PSI of ea. other, runnin it at lake will show up any signs of other problems, sounds like a good price if nothin wrong
Well,
I finally picked up the SX17.The motor comp. test revealed all 3 cylinders within 2 psi. The boat is in great shape. For 3500.00 , I did not feel I went wrong at all. This thing has some big deck room for a 17'. It actually measures 17'7". Everything works on the boat except for the speedo. The guy said the tube kept coming off. No biggy. I do have a question for you skeeter guys though. The trailer that the boat came with is not the proper trailer. The boat is only resting on 2 narrow bunks, and I know this isn't right. I am curious as who made the orginal trailer for this boat. I have been told it is exactly like a G3 hull. If it is, then Bear Trailers would bee a good place to get the correct trailer. However
I don't live near the midwest. Anyone have any ideas of who might make something close that can be fitted to the boat, without giving up my first born? Thanks for any and all the help. I live in florida next to the St. Johns River. I hope the picture works.

looks like you got a great deal. if the trailer works for you i wouldnt worry about it. if you want a better trailer you would be better off going to a trailer shop and having them build one for you. you can have it built the way you want it and it will last forever.

Make sure the bunks extend to the transom or a little past, or over time you will develop a hook from all the bouncing with no support at the transom area.
The trailer may have been made by TI trailers. I know some of the earlier aluminum skeeters had TI trailers under them.
