Skeeter SX17 with Motor that is Too Big

I am looking for a boat, and have found a 2000 skeeter SX17 with an older Mariner 80 HP motor. According to the tag, the boat is rated for a 75HP motor. The boat seems to be a good deal ($4000 is asking price). Motor has just been gone through top to bottom.

What problems would I have with this? I assume I would get a ticket at the very least. There are 80 stickers on the motor, if I remove them is there any way to tell the HP of the motor. What else could I do besides changing motors (not an option). I am just curious if it is worth the risk, I love the boat and the layout.

I can think of a few issues you might have. One would be trying to get insurance on a boat that is overpowerd. I have no idea if you fish tournaments but if you do I think running an overpowered rig is grounds for a DQ. I know the BFL's are that way and they check your boat over if you win a tournament. Just my 2 pennys.

Welcome to the BBC Jay. Nice to see another local guy on here.
The above post is absolutely correct. Just about any tournament that you fish will require that the engine HP falls within the rating for the boat. I know 5-HP is not much over, but it will still get you DQ'ed. I would probably keep on looking. I'm sure you can find another good deal.
