PULLING THE INTIMIDATOR TO FLORIDA FOR A MOTOR REBUILD

well sadly enough, my dad's NEW used 2005 rebuilt 250 XS blew up SATURDAY morning...this was only the 4th trip to the water, when she locked up on blast off...
we just bought it from a fellow gambler owner out of FL, who had just had it rebuilt prior to selling...UNTIL saturday morning, we were IN LOVE with the PERFORMANCE of the motor...but out of the blue with NO ALARMS, she locked up while running 81 at 6000 rpms saturday morning...
WAYNE at wayne's outboard repair in LAKE city FL, gave us a 60 day Warranty, which would be good till SEPTEMBER 24....WHEWWW...
So we will be leaving NC at 5 am on WEDNESDAY the 15th headed for LAKE CITY, FL pulling the WHITE INTIMIDATOR with the 250...

not saying this is what happened, but when you get it back, be sure to let it come up to temp before dropping the hammer. especially with cooler weather coming. those optimaxes are sensitive to cold seizure. glad your gonna get it fixed under warranty.

Re: PULLING THE INTIMIDATOR TO FLORIDA FOR A MOTOR REBUILD (Sterling)

i called on monday, and the MECHANIC was out of the shop and wont be back till this FRIDAY...his asst, looked at the notes on the log and saw where #6 cylinder needed a new sleave, so he sent the block off for that...i have yet to talk to him, so i have no idea what caused the sleave to be bad, but considering it was locked up, i'm assuming a rod broke and scratch the cylinder wall...i guess we'll have to wait till Friday...i'll update again as soon as i here something...

just got off the phone with the MECHANIC...
cylinder #6 either the AIR injector or Fuel Injector failed causing the cylinder to run dry just long enough to BREAK the PISTON...
he's still waiting on the machine shop to get the block back...

Is the re-build being covered under warranty?
Failed injector sounds like an easy escape goat.

yesterday he said that the injector would be my cost, as far as the piston and machine shop and his labor, he led me to assume it was his cost...

hmmmn, I would say warranty is warranty. Becareful letting him get too far into it without knowing excactly who is paying what. Once the work is done an he has boat in his possession, it's his word against yours if its not in writing.

Re: PULLING THE INTIMIDATOR TO FLORIDA FOR A MOTOR REBUILD (Gamblurr man)

well what i had in writing clearly says INTERNAL PARTS of MOTOR WARRANTIED for 60 DAYS...honestly, as long as he covers everything besides the injectors($300), i'm happy...
I just want to make sure this doesn't happen again...cant wait till DON on the 3.0L forum gets back...

With is written like that I could see how an injector is a little grey area. But as long as in the end you feel like he did you right that's all that really matters.

Re: PULLING THE INTIMIDATOR TO FLORIDA FOR A MOTOR REBUILD (low slung cruiser)

    got some GOOD news today...
Talked to the Mechanic if FL working on the motor...He was picking the block up today from the machine shop. Going to put it back together TUES/WED, then after 1.5 hours of idle break-in, going to take it to the local lake for some run time break in...if all goes well, said we might could pick it up by THURS/FRI...
I asked him about the WARRANTY deal...he confirmed that we would have to pay for the AIR/FUEL injectors, which should total out to $650, and he was going to cover the rest...WHEWWWW....
