    pulling the motor

    getting ready to pull a merc 225 ....whats the easiest way ... cherry picker ...fork lift. personally i was thinking the fork lift but if anyone has any better insight i'd love to hear

    Cherry picker has always worked well for me, as long as the boom can get it high enough.
    1987 Ranger 373V 150 Yamaha proV still going strong.

    I used a 8000 lb. excavator
    only because i had no cherry picker.

    is there any were in particular to secure the motor to what ever i use or just wing it to the most ballance point

    cherry picker, i used my trailer chain and was able to balance the weight of a 1999 suzuki 225hp 20" shaft. It worked ok

    You need a Merc lift ring. It will screw into the flywheel. Then just hook your chain to the ring and lift away.

    If you haven't already, you might post over on the Merc board. I am not sure if the Optis use the same lift ring as the older motors or not. I have an older Mariner and found the lift ring on Ebay for $30.

    Last time i swaped out motors I used an overhead crane in the shop. Most do not have access to these but it makes the job very easy. The lifting eye is the way to go.

    Any dealer should work. We were able to rent one from our local dealer, just put down a $40 deposit, and I think it was $10 for the day. Then we used an engine hoist.
