I need a new steering cable for my 96 181 elite, can anyone point me in the right direction. I plan (hope) to do the job myself. I've been told I can unhook them from under the dash 1 at a time, to find the bad one. Then pull it out (with a nylon rope attached) and use the rope to pull the new good one back thru (is there any gotchas I need to look out for?). I need to know what brand, and if possible where to get said cable. Help is always appriciated, thanks in advance.

I only did this once on a '85 Venture I had... You are right about pulling the cable with a stout string, but it can be difficult to get through as they tend to hang-up on wiring etc... Also you may want to consider replacing both because if one went bad - the other may not be far behind...
I actually have an dual cable setup that was taken out when I put in a hydro steer. However, at one of the ends, they did have to cut it to get it out (right at the end). The other cable still has the hardware attached (and I have the other hardware that was cut off at the end as well). Not sure if this would work, but I figured I would throw it out there
