    steering cable replacement

Hi, I bought a boat for my son and Im trying to fix it up. It is a 1979 15ft BumbleBee with a 70hp Johnson. The boat has been sitting out side for several years. The previous owner stripped it down and was going to fix it up but never got to it. The Steering cable was disconnected and layin in the boat attached to steering wheel and helm. There are no visable markings or part number on the cable. I need to replace it and need to find out what I need. It is sort of looks like the rack and pinion type but it is round instead of flat. There is a two ft. tube that is attached to the helm and wheel and the end of the cable is round with gear teeth when I take it out of the tube. Do i need to replace the whole system or do they still make this style cable that will fit into that tube. Any advice and comments are welcome. Thanks in advance. Tony

for that old bee with only a 70hp id get a whole new pre tech or uflex system. you can buy these at just about any boat or marine supply for around 150 for the complete system.

if you have a boaters world near you they are going out of business and you may get a deal there.

the pricing at my boaters world is getting pretty good now. especially the fishing stuff.

Take a look at the cable where it attaches to the helm. Teleflex normally puts a series of numbers on that end of the cable. The last couple of digits is normally the cable length in feet.

I looked high and low for a cable for an '83 Hydra-Sport and ending up having to buy a complete Teleflex system. Most places told me if they could get the cable it would cost nearly as much as a new system.
