    Need Set-Up Info For 1989 184 with 1989 150 Mercury

Hello, A friend of mine has purchased a 1989 184 with a 150 Mercury. Can you guys tell me the set-up numbers for this boat? Also, how many RPM's and what prop for the 1989 Mercury? He said it sounded like it was blowing out when he trimmed it up and that it was throwing a huge rooster tail. Also, the guy who had it before moved the trolling batteries to the front; he is gonna move them back to the rear.

    Any info is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

Pat Goff will be along with better info, but for starters

23p Tempest plus set 3.5" below pad. 6" rapidjack and definitely move those batteries back to the rear!!!! The 184 is a great hull!!!

Thank you, Lea. The boat currently does not have a jack plate...is it necessary or could I set it up without? Any idea how much the 6" rapidjack cost or where I could find one?

You could set it without, but your best bet would be to try to get the jackplate. Someone will be along to help with locating one and cost. Rapidjack is definitely the best manual plate.

I have the same boat. If he has a 150 XR4 and it has the small gear case you are limited on prop selection. As of now I have a 6" rapid jack and a 23 LaserII. I am getting 60-61 mph @ 5100 rpm. My next step is to send the prop the Mark Croxton and have it worked by him. Pat Goff told me a worked LaserII will out perform a Tempest 23.

I had a 1986 184 super v and I loved it , it had a XR2 150 on it and I installed a 6" jack plate with a trophy plus 25 pitch it ran 61.7 on the gps, I would recommend that or a 23 pitch tempest plus..... and a jack plate....Don't remember the pad setting or height you'll just have to play a little to find the correct setting... and yes a worked laser 2 will out perform a tempest unless the tempest is worked by Mark Croxton....

    Thanks for the information guys.

Anyone know the RPM range the 1989 150 Mercury is supposed to be at?

If no one here answers, check in the Merc forum here on BBC. They will know...

    WHOA PARDS...
"Pat Said" Let's be careful here, you're running an XR4 which is the small gearcase motor...lazer is a small hub prop, tempest won't fit it, so tempest would not be a choice available.

IF IF IF IF you have a regular V6 gearcase then the lazer is LAST choice I'd suggest.

We need to be careful in our information.

    So...Back to case in hand..
    IF it's a regular gear case 150...

    23M yamaha prop
6" rapid jack with champ offset
    set propshaft at 3 1/2"

    Go enjoy your ride.

    Re: (pmgoffjr)

So Pat, to make sure I understand:

If it is a small gearcase (and it is an XR4 150) run the 23P Laser II

If it is a regular gearcase, run the 23P Yamaha M

Also, what does "champ offset" mean when talking about jackplates? I found a Slidemaster 6" jackplate (http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=559876) here on BBC...is it not a good choice for this boat?

    Thank you.

    Re: (pmgoffjr)

I didn't see the part aabout the small gearcase tempest will not fit only like a turbo or trophy plus or the yamie if you have a big case which I doubt on the xr4 unless someone has changed the gear case...pmgoffjr will know he can fix you up for sure

Sorry about that Pat. I had props that started with T on my mind after reading the prior post. I meant that to be a trophy not a tempest. I was meaning to say that the worked laserII would outperform the trophy.
