    these pedestals stink.....

I had thought I cured the problem with the pedestals in my boat a while ago. They both went in and came out fine. Got a new pedestal for the back last year and sanded the paint off the bottom for a loose fit. Now that one is stuck BIG TIME. I had three guys on it at a tournament morning while it was still cool out and it wouldn't budge.
These are the worst designed things I have ever seen. Now I will have to ruin the pedestal to pry it out with a pipe wrench. they are a wal mart part built into a Ferrari of a boat. F-IING GARBAGE.
    Rant over..

When I bought my 2000 191, I couldn't figure out why there was a hold drilled thru the post ......it was to put a rod thru to twist the post to take it out...

I've replaced them with new ones from BPS. Sanded the bottoms, and make sure I remove them as soon as I'm off the water - so far no problems....

Gents I don't know what your expressing but posts about this have come to be common. My boat is a 2007 so maybe my posts are of a different design never any issues. With that said: has anyone ever attempted to spray silicone spray lube on the lower section of your posts and in the hole?

I would think it would be worth a try.

Sorry to hear about your problem I posted on a previous forum, what I did to mine was to let a machine shop take just a little off my pedestal, that cure the problem on both of my boats. I think he took off just a smiget and that was enough to free up the pedestal.

    Re: these pedestals stink..... (csmetreyeon)

I need the back seat in to have the cover fit right, and I had sanded all the paint off the new one for a loose fit. I think it was the plastic they used in the cups that is the problem. I had changed the stand up post in the front earlier so I could use the old one in the back instead of a seat.
And yes, I have seen most all the posts about this subject, Just think it is a horrible design.

Since I take my pedestals out immediately, I have no problems. However, I have heard that it is better to sand the inside of the pedestal base rather than sanding the paint off the pedestal....

Pat. sorry to hear about your troubles but know you are not alone. You could try using a strap wrench and a block of wood. This however did not work for me. A 24" pipe wrench did work. It made such terrible sounds my neighbor came outside to see if I was beating the crap out of a cat or something.

Re: these pedestals stink..... (dave cance)

My back one was destroyed on removal last year, but I could care less about the rear. My front one has been in (stuck) for a year but I didn't care because the boat is garaged...until today.

Taking the family and some friends tubing next week so it was time to get it out.

    1. Big screw driver in the hole until pedestal can be turned.
    2. Dawn dish soap shot in the hole and around the base.
    3. Wife turned pedestal with the screw driver while I pulled up.
    4. Pedestal popped out and whacked wife across neck.
    5. Not getting lucky tonight.

I have had the same problem with my older Champ.. The best way I found is wrap a cloth around the base put a pipe wrench teeth on the pedstal and lift and turn.. It will come out and the cloth will protect the finish.

The oil based silicone will eventually swell your plastic inserts and stick em.

I have sanded the inside of the base several times, that's what really ticks me off. Sanded the bases as well as the paint off the post and still stuck so bad I have to ruin a new post to take it out

    Re: these pedestals stink..... (gen)

The newer boats have different insert and poles and they work like intended. Might want to look into replacing the old system. I had a couple champs with the older system and it was a pain in the azz. The new ones come from a company named springfield and they can be seen on bass pro shops web site. Best of luck.

They sell silicone spray at Lowes. If you ever get it out make sure you spray it.
