How difficult is changing the diaphragm fuel pump on a 2000 115 Ficth 115? The manual talks about springs and check valves etc… Are special tools required? Can the pump be removed from the motor and the repairs be done in a garage? Whenever I see a repair job that requires replacing springs it makes me think twice.

Its not hard but I have done a few, if you are not sure you can handle it..... have a dealer do it.
Thanks. I think I'll give it a try subject to your comment on the last section of this post. This boat is kept out in the middle on no where in NC. To get it to a dealer is a bit of trouble.
The local guy (BRP certified but part challenged) I took it to said he fixed the problem by breaking off the check valve about two years ago. He made the problem 90 percent better ( the motor cuts out at 3/4 throttle or above every few hours). He said the diaphram looked distorted but he did not have the parts. I have run it two years since his fix and now it is getting worse.
He gave me a price of $140 to replace the water pump and fuel pump if I provide the parts. Is that a good deal?
I am getting to old to work on motors out in the cold!
