    Lower Unit ratio's

Ok guys so at the Northern Rally Al and myself tried to get Gadgetters?(chip) boat running...Something pretty dam odd going on with this boat..He fought a hieght problem with his SS Stratos for a long time..Finally got all that sorted out..so engine hieght isnt the problem anymore

Boat has a 225 on it,around 3 inches below pad the thing turns a 26 raker 5300 RPM to a whoping 52 MPH I threw a 25 renegade on and it got on pad better but still only ran 54 miles per hour

Last year i noticed this boat had white paint showing through the blue paint And i also notice the water intae is a small square with a small plastic cover...nothing like my lower unit..Motor seems to run like a charm so the only thing i can think of is the lower unit has some wacky saltwater lower unit with some weird ratio???

Anyone?? m so at a loss with this boat

225 cowling on a lower HP motor? Is that possible at all?

    Rusty,

    He's got a '99 21SS w/a '99 225 Ficht that he picked up used.

I would think there may have been damage to the lower unit at some point and the exact thing JerryT mentioned happened. I bet a lower unit that would work was put on instead of the correct lower unit.

The V-6 should be 1.86:1, the intakes are different on different model years. They are all white until they get the final paint job.

Does the one that runs faster have a lightning gearcase on it? Gearcase profile can make a difference.

    Re: Lower Unit ratio's (rudetech1)

Im going to try and get with him and bolt my lower unit to his motor..Something is not right and i think its more than compression..It sure feels like it runs good for it to have low compression,Spools up pretty good with a 25 on her out of the whole
