I have a 1994 175 XRI 2.5 electronic fuel injection SN#0G075834. The lower unit needs repair how do I find out what gear ratio. I've seen used LUs resonable what other LUs will fit? Are all V6s the same? Can I check Forward Neutral Reverse make sure there's no slop check gear lube. I'd like to fix it myself.

There are MULTIPLE gearcases for this engine series.
Best to know the following information:
-MEASURE the bore of the gearcase at the prop housing (4-1/4" or 4-3/4")
-Does the gearcase have anodes mounted in the sides above the anti-ventilation plate?

We do not normally recommend attempting gearcase repairs as a "DIY" project, as there are more special tools and techniques required for your gearcase than for ANY other portion of your engine.
