Any ideas, motor clicking on hole shot

I have a 98 Johnson Venom that seems to make a clicking noise on holeshot. It doesn't do it every time but 2 to 3 clicks when it does. Usually happens after the first run and when the livewells are full or two people in the boat and it is tx loaded. It definitely seems like it is coming from the engine and not the boat. Also the boat takes longer to plane when the livewells are full. Model number is J200 STLECE, S/N G04360394. The boat is a 98 Bumble Bee Pro Vee. Thank you all.

Damn, It is nice to have folks post model numbers with their questions !!

Explain "clicking". Does it sound like a thunk?

Does the motor "jump" or shudder like hitting something when you hear the "click" on acceleration? Do you feel each "click" if you hold your hand on the shift lever?

Thanks SEAHORSE, I don't have a hot foot and I don't feel anything through the wheel or shifter/throttle. The engine runs fine even when it does this. I just had the impeller replaced and they resealed the lower unit. This clicking happened before and after the work. It happens as soon as I pulling power probably before I reach 2500 rpm. Looking at other posts, I hope I don't have water in the fuel. I think I'll install a seperator this week, especially if you think I should. The click sounds like two pieces of metal struck togetrher, never louder or softer, always the same when it does it. The steering jamnuts are tight and so are my Jackplate and engine bolts. Sorry for the long post.

I would definatly check the compression on this motor, it could be nothing or it could be something about to happen. It would also help it you increased the size of the #2 High speed orifice by .002. This helps the cooling.
