For about the past week, when I go to nail it and take off,the motor seems to bog down and takes forever to get on plane. When it does get up it screams like usual, what should I check first.

I seem to have a simular problem with my motor ('99 Johnson 225 HO). Mine only bogs at around 1250 RPM to 1500 RPM. Once I get past that it's fine. It doesn't do it everytime, so it's not that cumbersome to me.
When it does bog, I press my choke in and out as fast I could. It then runs through the bog.
Anyway, after saying this. I would suggest it would be in the fuel delivery system.....filter, vacuum lines loose, loose fuel lines, primer bulb check any clamps that are connected to the fuel lines and carbs.
I have searched over my entire fuel system and noticed where the fuel lines enter the carbs, the clamps were loose on every one. I tightened them as best I could and it did resolve about 80 % of the bog.
I havent tried the choke trick yet but I will tonight.I did look over the motor and tightened up anything that needed it.Nothing with the fuel system seemed to be loose.
If it was the fuel filter being dirty, wouldnt it be missing and bogging at higher rpm's also?
Is there a certain carb cleaner or any additive that may help the problem?Anybody else have any advice/info on this problem?

I think I would look at the Sync and Link, if the motor gets throttle before it gets timing it will bog.
Rusty, thanks for your input,I hate to sound dumb but what exactly is the sync and link?
Is this easy to get to?Easy to check and fix?
Will the motor run fine after I get up on plane if this sync and link is messed up?Hate to drill you with questions but I got to get this fixed asap. Thanks again for your input....

This is a multi step procedure that synchronizes the throttle and spark advance linkage, it is not simple and you will need a BRP service manual to do this.
The motor would most likely run fine at higher RPM's.
I figured it would be complicated since I have never even heard of that before.....could it be anything else?Maybe something else I should try before taking on the sync and link?
what about a decarb??Or a fuel additive??
Let me add a little something in with the description that may help my situation.
When coming down off plane,I have to gun it to prevent backwash.....if the rpm's go too low, when I gas it to prevent the backwash, sometimes it bogs down, sometimes it doesnt. And sometimes the motor will just cut off when I let off the gas at low rpm's.It will start right back up no problem but it will cut out from time to time. This happens mainly when I am idling around watching my fish-finder.Could the carb(s) just be "loading up" due to the idling around at low rpm's?
Actually, the first time it happened,I ran full speed back into my creek and let off at the no wake buoys, idled through no wake zone at about 2,000......let off gas when near my dock to coast in and the motor died.So I started it back up and went back out to try to clear it out because I figured it had loaded up because I idled around at about 2,000.....boat would not plane.Changed plugs next day, planed fine. Now all the sudden its happening again and I have changed the plugs since its happened.Didnt seem to help.
Thanks again for all your help.![]()

Do you hear a spit or cough before it dies?
No,the rpm's just go down and it cuts off.....no cough,no spit.It doesnt happen every time I let off the gas but occasionally it will.
Here's something else, when I am trailering the boat it does fine when gassing it up on the trailer but will cut off sometimes when I let off.

There is nothing I can think of for you to check other than what I have posted.
Okay Rusty, thanks for all the help.....I'll leave you alone now![]()
