motor sounds like it wants to die in idle

While in gear the motor sounds like it wants to die, but it never has. This is something new that got me a little concerned. The rpm's are where they should be in gear idling and in neutral, and once I hit the hot foot to get on plane it seems fine. There might be a slight hesitation on hole shot , and it may be slightly slower than it has been getting out of the hole. But, that is a very slight thing that only I would notice. I had my partner pump the bulb to see if that had any effect while idling in gear, and it did not seem like it did anything. Last fall I got both low pressure pumps rebuilt, sync and link, replaced 10 micron filter in bilge, and a decarb done. I also put new plugs in too. I checked the plugs and they are not oil fouled or carboned, and there is no fuel leaks under the cowl. I use Pennzoil Premium Plus, Ring Free Plus, and Stabil with every fill up. Could this be related to fuel lines, plug wires, or fuel injector screens that have been heavily discussed lately? Any suggestions?

You did not mention if you replaced the clear bowl filter, the VST and HP Filter?? If not, being a 2002 you’re due on all. You can also check timing which can also give similar symptoms. If you have not changed out fuel lines from bulb to the engine I would do that also. Normally first signs of fuel line problems would be issues higher in RPMS not idle. You do say hole shot if off a bit so fuel lines could be the culprit. I would start with these things.

I replaced the clear bowl filter, VST filter, and emptied the 10 micron water separator in October. Since then, I have probably put about 20 hours on the engine over the winter. When I had those filters changed in October, they performed a sync and link which I assumed they also checked the timing. The fuel bulb was also replaced at that time. I bought a new clear bowl filter yesterday and plan on replacing it and draining the 10 micron again today. I will also check my fuel lines for degrading due to ethanol has I have not yet replaced those lines with the updated ethanol resistant. What kind of issues would I experience at higher RPM's due to fuel line problems?

Loss of top speed, drop in RPM, hesitation, cut out.....just to name a few.
