    Would this cause overheating?

If you look at the exhaust gasket to the right of the water pump, it is melted in two places.

My motor has been overheating on me, and I checked my water pump and everything looked pretty good. Since they are cheap, and I had it apart, I went ahead and replaced it, but also noticed the exhaust gasket being melted. If my water pump is working fine, would this cause an overheat as well?

    Here is a picture:

You can see where the gasket has melted in two areas and deformed.

    Thanks
    Chris

You need to replace that gasket, if you don't it will eventually melt your plastic cover over you impeller. Don't know if that would cause you to over heat. Replace and run it again and go from there.

Yeah, after seeing it in the picture, it looks worse than I initially thought. I didn't look too closely at it because I replaced everything anyway. I'm just waiting now on the exhaust gasket to get in.

I replaced the water pump while I was waiting on the gasket, and made the gasket "work" because I needed to go to the lake one night this week. Going slow was fine, but when I opened her up a bit, it overheated in about 2 seconds.

I got the gasket in last night and replaced the old one. Went to the lake and she runs like a champ. So, if you are having overheat problems, be sure to check that gasket also.
