    1990 XP200 Impeller change?

How often should one change the impeller? With the recent electrical woes (see other post), got me thinking of other maintenance items that might need to be addressed on an engine of this age? How hard is it to change the impeller? And where on earth is the darn thing?

    TIA,

    Scott

I usually like to do them at least once every 2 years, if not every year. Here is a link that shows how to do...

It depends on the water you run, here in TN I have changed impellers that were 10 years old and they look brand new, in salt/sand/brackish water you may want to change it more often.

I have not thought about this in years but I think the recommendation is replace every 5 years with the BRP impellers, guess I should check on that.

Do the thermostats when you do the pump. One less thing to worry about.

Sweet! Got an impeller/pump kit and a set of thermostats and seals on the way...to go along with my new regulator/rectifier (see previous post).

I found the website to show HOW TO change the impeller and stuff, but has anyone actually DONE the service? Little nervous about dropping the lower unit down to get this accomplished.

    Encouragement appreciated!!! LOL

Just be ready when you get that last bolt out. Do not spin the shift shaft. You may need someone to help you get it back up and line up the components. Other than that , it' a pretty straight forward job. Use a long 1/4" extension on the ratchet with a wiggler on it to remove the shift screw. If you wrap some tape on the wiggler, It'll keep it from flopping around so much and make it easier to get to the screw out. This lowers the frustration level somewhat and keeps you from launching tools across the street at the neighbors new car. Oh, that was me, sorry. Good luck.
