Well,I have followed the instructions and the lower unit wont drop off.It is connected to a rod that runs from LU all the way up.From what I can tell,that's the only thing holding it on now.Shouldn't that rod just pop out of the lower unit instead of having to be taken off from the top?

The book says:" Rotate prop shaft and shift into reverse position. Remove shift rod screw" It looks like the the screw you need to remove is in the front of the motor on the bottom below the carbs. Once you loosen that screw it should drop out. Let us know if you can find it.

I had to change out an impeller last year and I didn't have those instructions posted here. It sure would have made it easier because my buddy and I had a heck of a time disconnecting the rod and even worse reconnecting.
Other then the rod, it's a snap to do.

Thanks for all the replies so far.We evidently unhooked the wrong thing and the shifter pin is still in it.Boy,that looks like fun!!
I'll have to try it again tomorrow,right after I buy a double jointed socket wrench.

Remove the port side belly pan and shift to reverse. Piece of cake, look under the bottom carbs and you'll see the shift rod, remove the slotted bolt with a socket, and out she comes.
C-man,I was under the impression that the rod would come out of the lower unit,not all the way out from the top.I just didnt remove the right shifter pin.
What did I unhook?
I don't know, here is the procedure, remove the 4 9/16" bolts from the side of the LU, remove the trim tab and mark setting, remove the bolt from under the TT and remove the hidden 5/8" bolt on the tail of the LU. Remove the linkage pin from the shift rod (belly pan) center of motor. Lower unit will come down make sure you are in reverse for shift rod alignment upon re-install. Turn Flywheel until splines match. Have a side bolt ready to hold LU up. Once shaft and FW splines align an Make sure the H20 tube is lined up tighten up the side bolts and complete install.
Yeah,I think I'm clear on what to do now......I just didnt take the shifter pin out.Should be a little easier now that I know exactly what to take loose.I was freakin out for a little while when the LU wouldnt come off.

You're welcome, apply the grease to the side of the splines that come with the H20 Kit, don't apply the grease to the top of the driveshaft.
