    Blown Pro-V 200????

I have a 98 pro-V 200. Fished last Thursday, Friday and Saturday with no problems. Fueled up from the marina (I know-dumb mistake) Saturday night for Sunday launch. Motor ran fine until 1 mile. Lost power and was able to keep running to idle back to ramp. Will start, idle and run at idle speed in gear but makes loud thumping noise like piston blown. I have been told it may be bad gas or blown motor. I have never heard a blown motor sound. Help with the above and following
-Could it be the bad gas?
    -Could it be blown motor?
-Would it still start and idle if blown or damaged internally?

Any help at this point is beneficial before taking the $$ plunge at dealer. I plan to drain gas this weekend and run in driveway if it is worth it.

Compression check. If ok, siphon from primer bulb in a small clear container and check for water in fuel. Check and make sure all plugs are ok and not fouled. This could also be lower unit problems or CDI issues.

Thanks. Could it be lower unit if still doing it in neurtal and what is the CDI?

yes, the clanging at idle and in gear could be a problem with the lower unit. I went through that with my Pro-V about four years ago. Do a compression check as suggested to find out for sure.

The CDI is your ignition. Capacitive Discharge Ignition. I doubt it is in the CDI as it is not prone to fail very easy, but as I mentioned worth looking at. This times and controls when a plug will fire. This sounds more like a lower unit that let go than anything else. That ProV is pretty bullet proof if taken care of. I had a 130 V4 which also came in the Pro V variety. Ran it for 16 years with never a problem. Look at all the things mentioned starting with compression. Look at the plugs as well, they can tell you a lot. If a cylinder let go you will see it in the plug. You can also drain the LU oil and look for contamination/water and filings
