Besides compresion check is there anything else I can look for? Buying used and will fire it up with ears tomorrow. Any suggestions?

if possible----hook a laptop up and look at the rpm profile, any fault codes if there are any---that is a 3.3L motor just like my 2001 i believe and my motor has been flawless for the two years since i bought it and the boat as a holdover model

By all means, Chris is right, check out the computer printout on the engine profiles, RPM's, Hours, codes, Hard and intermittant, etc!!!
Thanks guys..
I did a compession test. 124-126 on each cylender.
Took it out on the lake. Started great for the first time this year.
Got it up to 72-75 couple times. Was to cold out so after 1/2 hour we broght it back in.
Question, how often should the water pump be relaced???
Once every 3 years......I have seen the pump last up to 5 years or longer with no loss of water pressure.![]()
Thanks
My concern is the qwater presure gauge doesn't work.
The gauge is pinned in the highest reading spot. I'm thinking about taking the gauge out and disconeecting the tube and start it to see if I am even getting water presure. Still looks like the gauge is trash.
???
You may have a clog in the guage that won't let the pressure off, more than likely a bad gauge. You can pull off the hose on the back of the gauge and see if it zeros out. Tap on it, if it still doesn't, replace it. They aren't that pricey. easy to change on most boats. If the guage does go back to zero, you need to blow out the hose from the guage back , if you can't get it to clear out , replace the hose. A new guage will come with hose and connectors. This might be the quicker way, the water pressure guage and the tach are the 2 usefull guages on a boat!!
Thanks!
I replaced the guage and it works fine.....
Cool, now go fish, ski, or burn gas!!! Just get on the water!!
Update, have had it in the water a few times. Runs great 72-74 swwweeeeeeeeettttttt...
