    Storing and fogging oil

Morning all. I have a question about using fogging oil. A friend of mine has a Johnson 115 FastStrike on his Ranger. He winterized it in Dec. just before he shipped out for Iraq, but did not have any fogging oil. I picked some up to do the job for him. We were both under the impression that you just spray it through the spark plug holes, but I got to looking at the can and it says to spray through the carbs while motor is running. Is this the best way, or is there another trick to do this? I will do it as listed on the can, but need to wait for some warmer weather. Thanks for the help. Sully

First of all. Best wishes to your friend and his family. I hope his tour is a safe one.

As for the fogging oil. You need to get it into the bottom end of the motor, so it will protect the crank, bearings, lower cylinder walls, etc. You can spray it into the carbs - as fast as you can get it in. Or the easiest way is to use the red preventitave maintenance valve located on the starboard side of the motor. Bomb fogging oil comes with a tube that will screw onto the PM valve. I think the directions are on the can.

After you have done that, pull the plugs, and give each cylinder a squirt of about 1/2 oz. Put the plugs back and crank her over a few times. PULL THE KILL SWITCH FIRST.

Get a can of silicone spray, and go over all the electrical connections on the motor. Give the prop hub a spray too. If I left anything out, I'm sure someone will help out.....Pete

Re: Storing and fogging oil (basn4fun)

Thanks for the info. Will be doing this in a couple of more weeks. Seems the very least I can do for him. Pretty good fishing partner, too. Told him about this place in an email, but his computer time is pretty limited right now. Hope to get him on here when he returns, sometime around a year from now. Thanks again. Sully
