Quick question. How reliable are these Yamaha lower units. My 2007 250 HPDI lost the lower unit this weekend. The dealer said that it blew out the seal on the prop shaft. This engine only has 67 hours on it. Any feedback would be appreciated. I haven't heard positive things from a couple of people I know and I'm nervous about my new boat all ready having problems. Thanks in advance.
Apparently I am the only one that has had a lower unit take a dump for no reason. That makes me feel a lot better.
Buddy of mine had his 250 HPDI lower unit go out. Turns out the dealer serviced it but forgot to refill the oil(how do you put the drain plug in and not notice the oil is empty?) He ran it with no oil for 2 months before it blew up. If that's any indication, I wouldn't worry.
Found water in my 150 proV lower unit and replaced the seals before it crapped out.Of course it is 18 years old.
